Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust Research team at the HSJ awards 2014
Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has won a prestigious national award for the work it has done to maximise clinical research activity across the Trust. Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust were successful in winning the HSJ “Research Impact” Award 2014 in London on 19th November.
Most hospital trusts in the UK conduct research but Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust was selected from a shortlist of 10 for the award.
Professor Anoop Chauhan, Director of Research at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said:
“We are delighted to win this highly competitive award which recognises how our research teams are transforming clinical care through research.
“We thank the judges for recognising our work, and all our patients who have participated in clinical trials in Portsmouth – this is for you and we thank you for inspiring us.”
The award, sponsored by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network, is presented to the NHS organisation that has gone the extra mile to embed clinical research as core business and harness clinical research impacts to improve services and treatments for its patients.
The HSJ citation reads:
“The winners demonstrated an ambitious and impressive programme, presenting excellent evidence of a system wide approach to embedding clinical research.”
Professor Dame Sally C Davies FRS FMedSci, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Adviser presented the award. She said:
“Our vision is that every patient will be offered the chance to take part in a research study as a standard part of their treatment – whether that’s at their GP surgery or hospital. We have yet to achieve this in the NHS as a whole, but Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has demonstrated how, with great leadership and strong team work, great progress can be made in making the vision a reality.”
